Strategy Statement:
The aim for this assignment was to re-interpret what life would be life
after people through 3DsMax and Cryengine 3. I chose Rudin House, because I
felt it best fit within the environment I had already created for Experiment 1,
which was a village setting. The natural disaster that I have chosen to
represent in my environment is Tornado/Non-stop continuous rain. The houses in
the village have partly eroded away.
The Rudin house formwork included wireframe work, concrete slabs, wooden
window frames and glass for the windows. Breaking down this building into
pieces was my main goal. To present this building 100 years after human life I
wanted to create custom textures for my models. Combined cracked concrete with
moss for my concrete parts, moss/mold and wood combined together for my window
frames and furniture frames and rust and metal together to create my
wireframes.
I decided to model the house as it would be in present state so viewers
can see the major difference between present Rudin house and the Rudin house 100
years later after life.
Since a tornado and rain was involved in my natural disaster I decided
the building would have to collapse dude it constant torrential rain and
previous tornado. The building, firstly the buildings roof would first collapse
and apply pressure on either walls of and also drag them down too. In order to
model a ‘broken and damaged’ house I used the Boolean tool to create cracks
into the walls and cut out parts to present ‘deterioration’. I wanted the
pieces to fall down, to animate this I used track view to animate my pieces and
also as a camera to film these shots.
For the surrounding environment I damaged most of the houses and added
extra trees and plants to present the overgrowth of vegetation that has been
caused by have no humans around. For the interior of the damaged house I have
added numerous decals from algae, to graffiti- to past presence of human life.
To also present the idea of human life beforehand, I placed damaged bed frame, damaged
sofa frame, table top and legs. The textures for the furniture were also
blended in with two different textures, for bed framed a I used wood texture
with a layer of moss.
Hey, this looks great. Fyi, the video doesn't work.
